Case 01 / Product vision · AI interfaces
From setup to intent
An onboarding brief became a different product question: what if people could start with the outcome they wanted, and shape the path with the software?
- My contribution
- Initiated the alternative concept and built the first prototype.
- Scope
- Problem framing, interaction concept and prototyping.
- Concrete outcome
- A tangible concept that contributed to a broader product direction.

01 / The problem
A clearer setup flow, or a different starting point?
The original brief was an onboarding wizard for a customer data platform. A wizard could organise the configuration steps, but I saw an opportunity to reconsider the starting point itself.
Could the experience begin with a business question rather than a sequence of product settings? That meant thinking beyond onboarding: the user’s intent, the context the system needs, the proposed path and the way someone follows the outcome.
02 / The approach
Use a prototype to make the reframing discussable.
I reframed the brief and built the first prototype of an outcome-led experience. Instead of leaving the idea at the level of a product vision, I gave colleagues a concrete interaction to examine and develop further.
The concept evolved with the team. My own contribution expanded into monitoring and moments where people review a proposal or make a decision with AI.
Decision 01
Change the entry point
Begin with what someone wants to achieve. Work backwards to the context, configuration and decisions needed to get there.
Decision 02
Design the surrounding experience
A proposed path is only part of the product. People also need to understand the proposal, shape it and follow what happens next.
Decision 03
Keep authorship specific
I initiated the alternative concept and made the first prototype. The subsequent product development and refinement were shared work.
A new conceptual illustration of the design shift, not an original product screen or a specification of the shipped experience.
03 / The outcome
A product direction made tangible.
The concrete result was a first prototype and a concept that contributed to the wider product direction. It moved the conversation from a sequence of configuration steps to an experience organised around intent.
What I contributed
- Reframed the original onboarding brief.
- Built the first prototype of the alternative concept.
- Contributed to subsequent thinking about monitoring and decision moments.
What the evidence does not establish
This is a contribution to product vision and design development. The available material does not establish faster onboarding, increased conversion or realised customer value.
04 / The next question
What would I want to learn next?
The next evidence would be whether people can express their intended outcome, understand the proposed path and make informed changes to it.
